Automated Office
Practice again this conversation by taking over the role of Leah.
Operations (1)
HOST: we’re going to interrupt the program for a few minutes to talk directly to Dick Shorr, their Quality-Control Manager.
Chris and Leah discuss about a proposal for a robot.
Operations (2)
HOST: Now it’s your turn. Continue the interview. Try to find the location of Hewlett-Packard offices in Europe. Are you ready? Go ahead….
HOST: In Program 7, we interview Chris Smith. Let’s talk to him again. As usual, we’ll take turns. I’ll start the interview and talk with him, and then you can continue the interview. Are you ready?
YOU: Dick, when you were talking to Les, you were looking at some statistical graphs and talking about quality control. Can you tell us a little about that?
YOU: Thank you Dick.
YOU: Hello. Leah.
YOU: How are you?
YOU: Fine…. Tell me about your job.
YOU: What’s PC management?
YOU: What are your job responsibilities?
YOU: All HP equipments?
YOU: What communication functions do you manage?
YOU: How do you make a “paperless memo?
YOU: How many people here have PC’s?
HOST: Well. Our time’s almost up now, but before we end the lesson, let’s find out if Leah has any advice for people learning English.
Leah: I think my advice would be… is try to keep the … the use of the language as simple and as clear as possible. A lot of the, the memos that you receive, on occasion … you can notice a lot of words that people are trying to intellectualize, or create memos that are more difficult to read that if they were to try to attempt to use plain, simple English.
HOST: Pretty good advice! Well…. That’s all the time we have for today. We’ll have one last visit to Hewlett-Packard in our next program - Program 10. Bye for now.
Now you do the interviewing. Use the dialogue below.
